Find an overview of the best cycling routes starting from Tæru – and there’s many of them!
The Tæru surroundings are more than just beautiful: they are ideally suited for all your cycling training. We have created several interesting routes which we’re sharing with you below.
This ride proves just how beautiful the Tæru region is. On your 106 km trip, you gain no less than 1,800 metres in altitude, without even going too far from Blier.
Among other things, you’ll discover Col de Rideux (one of the few cols in Belgium) and Côte de Waharday. Both used to be a part of Belgium’s toughest cyclo, “Le Crique”. Then there’s the Côte de Hodister to explore. Before descending back to Tæru via Odeigne, you’ll encounter the climb to Dochamps towards Baraque Friture, with a gradient of 10%.

This ride east is a real runner on good asphalt roads with the turning point being Burg-Reuland. We pass the villages of Manhay,
Lierneux and Salmchâteau, staying below Vielsalm to enter the East Cantons. Always over undulating, very beautiful asphalt.
Returning we do so via Gouvy and we cross E25 to reach Wibrin. From there we put the icing on the cake and climb to Baraque Friture via côte de Chabrahez. Some 9km of climbing at 3-4%…
As a reward the last 15km downhill.

On this ride we head west, with Dinant as a turning point, over beautiful, quiet undulating roads, which gradually let the altimeters rise unnoticed.
Along the way we enjoy the wonderful views. Slowly we descend to the Meuse in Dinant.
We start the way back via “montagne de la Croix” (Mur de Dinant!!) 1.5km – average 10% – max 23%!!! Not so well known but super tricky.
With a possible coffee stop in Marche-en-Famenne, you can certainly master the last tough climbs of Werpin and Amonines with the finish line in sight.

No time to recuperate because côte de Stockeu awaits (From L-B-L..). At Monument “Eddy Merckx” we don’t turn left, but keep on climbing via Hénumont towards Wanne.
Descend to Grand-Halleux. Next ascent Mont-le-Soie (Petit Thier), then via Vielsalm, Dochamps, Devantave return through the center of Erezée to start the final ascent “Thier de Hazeilles” and descend to Tæru.

Turning point for this stage is “Rue sur Steppes” in Trooz (Fraipont), Tom Dumoulin’s favorite training climb. Narrow, steep (15%!) like in the Basque Country.
To get there, we can warm up at Roche-a-Frêne, Côte de Saint-Roch, etc. From Chambralles (other side) we will go via Côte de Rouvreux to Sprimont.
Then to Fraipont start “Rue sur Steppes”, climb in 4 steps, very steep >15%..>2km…. Now with new asphalt!
The way back is a bit easier, we stay on height (undulating) to reach Tæru in the end while descending.

Want to have a blast with your time trial bike?
This route is ideal for that and the climbs are reminding you of Ironman Hawai. Caution. It is a route with bigger and busier roads. Ideal outside rush hour or on a morning on the weekend. That’s when it’s perfect.
